Rex Industrial Packaging Group started in 1946 under the name of Rheem Hume (Far East) Limited. In 1980, Rex Plastics Pte Ltd and Rex Plastics (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd were acquired, marking the focus on plastic packaging. Since 1982, Hong Leong Group acquired and increased its equity interests in the various packaging companies.

With our desire to be a packaging partner of our global and regional customers, we started operations in Malaysia, China and Indonesia through merger and acquisition.

Malaysia

1980 – Acquired Rex Plastics (M) Sdn Bhd
1986 – Incorporated Rexpak Sdn Bhd
1992 – Relocated to Subang Hi-Tech Industrial Park in Shah Alam

China

1993 – Incorporated Shanghai Rex Packaging Co. Ltd
1995 – Invested in a plastic packaging company in Dongguan, renamed Dongguan Rex Packaging Co. Ltd
1998 – Invested in a metal packaging company in Hangzhou, subsequently renamed Hangzhou Rex Packaging Co. Ltd in 2004 whose current principal business is rigid plastic packaging
1998 - Set up Tianjin branch which was subsequently incorporated in 2003
2004 – Tianjin Rex Packaging moved to current site in Tianjin Economic Development Area, with land area of 33,000 m
2009 - Dongguan Rex Packaging officially opened its GMP clean room

Indonesia

1992 – Incorporated PT Rexplast, a joint venture company with Dynaplast (based in Surabaya)

In 2006, we divested our metal packaging and closure businesses as Rex focuses on rigid plastic packaging.
